# Landing page example

This page is `template: splash`, which is the template a product site uses for
its landing page, and Starlight gives a splash page no sidebar. The site sets
`sidebar: 'always'` on `heliaStarlight()`, so the navigation is still here at
desktop widths and a reader who arrives on the landing page can see the rest of
the site from it.

Nothing on the page asks for that. The option is the site's, set once in
`astro.config.mjs`, and every splash page it has behaves the same way.

## What the option changes

Starlight decides a page has no sidebar from its template, and one flag on the
route carries the decision to the page shell, to the frame, and to the layout
widths. The plugin sets the flag back rather than replacing either template, so
the sidebar here is Starlight's own, with the site's own navigation in it.

At narrow widths nothing changes: the sidebar is off-canvas here exactly as it
is on every other page of the site, and whatever opens it there opens it here.
